The Court of Cassation in Italy has confirmed the 30-year prison sentence for Elona Kalesha, 42 years old of Albanian origin, accused of murdering her ex-boyfriend's parents in Florence.
According to the decision, the appeal filed by the defense was dismissed, while the prosecution's request to leave the sentence imposed by the lower courts in force was accepted.
The incident dates back to 2015, when Teuta and Shpëtim Pasho disappeared in Florence. Only five years later, in December 2020, their remains were discovered dismembered in four suitcases, dumped in an area near the Florence-Pisa-Livorno highway and near the Sollicciano prison.
The appeals court in 2025 confirmed the 30-year prison sentence, rejecting both the prosecution's request for life imprisonment and the defense's plea of innocence.
How did the crime happen?
Elona Kalesha was arrested by Italian police for the macabre murder of the Pasho couple, as she is suspected of committing the murder with premeditation and, according to investigators, her intention was to eliminate her 'father-in-law' to get 40 thousand euros, but also because it is thought that she hated Taulan's mother, as Teuta did not love the son's daughter-in-law.
In addition to other arguments, investigations showed that there had been frequent arguments in the Pasho family, and even Taulant's mother, Teuta, had told him to choose between the family and Elona.
The murder occurred the day before Taulant, the son of the couple who were killed by Elona, was released from prison, while they were asleep.
The couple Teuta and Shpëtim Pasho were found dismembered in Italy in 4 suitcases, five years after their disappearance.
One suitcase, then another and another, there were four suitcases which, after the discovery of the first, emerged from a field between the Florence-Pisa-Livorno highway and the Sollicciano prison.
Inside, were the gruesome remains of a man and a woman. It was December 2020, and within a few days, the carabinieri managed to discover that those bodies belonged to Shpëtim and Teuta Pasho, an Albanian couple who had been missing since November 1, five years earlier.
They had not disappeared, but turned out to be the victims of a murder. Who could have killed them? Considering a considerable time difference, the prosecutor focused on the couple's family circle and in a few days the circle tightened around Elona Kalesha, at the time of the disappearance, she was the girlfriend of Pasha's son, Taulant.
The crime is suspected to have taken place in the apartment in via Fontana, in Florence, which the woman had rented in her own name.
