
On October 13, 1931, Dritëro Agolli (1931–2017), a prominent figure in Albanian literature and culture, was born.
He was a poet, prose writer, publicist and politician, who through his works brought a new spirit to Albanian literature, sensitively touching daily life, the land, the peasantry and the spirit of the people.
For years, Dritëroi headed the League of Writers and Artists of Albania, a position he assumed in 1973, exerting a powerful influence on the country's cultural and artistic development. He also worked as a journalist for the daily newspaper "Zëri i Popullit".
Dritëroi wrote poetry, poems, stories, novellas, novels, plays, and film scripts. His most notable poetic work is "Mother Albania," which outlines the heroic traditions of the country.
In prose, he made a name for himself especially with the novel “Commissioner Memo” and “The Rise and Fall of Comrade Zylo.” Dritëro Agolli's latest work is the book of poetry “Prit edhe pak,” dedicated to his wife Sadije.
The colossus of Albanian literature died at the age of 85, on February 3, 2017.
