Shkruar nga Pamfleti

The king of Albanian literature, Ismail Kadare, is dead!

The well-known writer, Ismail Kadare, passed away today.

The great writer Ismail Kadare closed his eyes today at the age of 88. It is learned that Kadare passed away this morning in the Emergency.

Ismail Kadare was the best writer of Albanian literature, among the best writers of contemporary world literature and the most translated author abroad, winner of several international literary prizes and nominated dozens of times for the Nobel Prize.

The literature of Kadare has made a valuable contribution to the creation of the national language and literature. Ismail Kadare is the only Albanian writer with wide international recognition and has been translated into 45 languages.

Our greatest writer and colossal prose writer of Albanian letters began his career first as a poet and then as a playwright and author.

Among his most popular works, we can single out "The General of the Dead Army" and the already famous poem "Mall". His famous works such as "Palace of Dreams" survived the communist censorship, even criticizing him often.

Kadare has often been a matter of debate in the public opinion because many voices said that he has threatened the dictatorship. This is untrue. Kadare introduced a new voice in Albanian literature, let's just remember "The Interrupted Hurricane", his monograph on Migje. Even his correspondence and books with interviews (Invitation to the studio) or "From one December to another" have great archival value.

Kadare was a person who stayed away from the vulgar and did not get his hands dirty with him. Communism did not even make him a human being and did not make him a conformist.

The city for which he had a weakness, Paris, or "the city of light" as he calls it in the book about the painter Omer Kalesh (Art as Sin) outlined his entire life and work (Shadow). Often compared to Fishta and Konica, Kadare is a very special and unrepeatable voice.

His loss is a great pain for all Albanians. He left behind two daughters, Besiana and Gresa, and his wife Helena Kadare.

In 1992, Kadare was awarded the Prix Mondial Cino Del Duca. In 2005, he won the "Man Booker Prize" nominated alongside Nobel laureates Günter Grass, Garbiel Garcia Marquez, Kenzabu Oe, etc. The head of the jury justified the decision to award Kadare with the words: "Ismail Kadare is a writer who maps an entire culture: its history, desire, folklore, politics, disasters.

He is a universal writer with a narrative tradition that goes back to Homer." In 2009 he was awarded the Spanish Prince of Asturias Award for the Arts, the most important literary award in the Spanish countries, and one of the most prestigious literary awards in the world. In 2010, Ismail Kadare was honored in Italy with the Lerici Pea award.

Ismail Kadare is the laureate of many national and international literary awards. In 1992 he was awarded the Prix Mondial Cino Del Duca. In 2005 he won the "Man Booker International Prize" where he was nominated together with other great writers, including Nobel laureates such as Günter Grass, Garbiel Garcia Marquez, Kenzaburo Oe, etc. The chairman of the jury justified the decision to award the prize to Kadare with the words: "Ismail Kadare is a writer who maps an entire culture: its history, desire, folklore, politics, disasters. "The awarding of the Lerici Pea Award 2010 to the author Kadare - it is written in the motivation of the award - means the role of poetry and literature as an instrument of freedom, becoming a support for all the people of the world, who are denied basic freedoms".

In 1996 Kadare became a life member of the Academy of Moral and Political Sciences in France. Ismail Kadare has been decorated by the institution of the President of the Republic of Albania with the "Honour of the Nation" Order and by the French state with the "Cross of the Legion of Honor" and "Officer of the Legion of Honor" orders.
