At a meeting of the Socialist Party parliamentary group, Prime Minister Edi Rama rejected claims that a long stay in power brings more corruption.
Rama stated that SPAK's history includes 10 charges of corruption, 16 for abuse of office and 15 for inequality in tenders. According to him, 85% of these cases belong to the first two terms of the socialist government, which, according to his logic, shows that the fight against corruption has intensified over the years. He added that many cases are related to problems inherited from the past.
The Prime Minister also touched on the investigations into the January 21 event, underlining that there is still no final answer for the victims of that day.
"It seems to me that it is not right that the more we fight corruption, the more corruption there is. Moreover, to give those who elected us a mirror to see reality, in the history of SPAK there are only 10 accusations of corruption. 16 for abuse of office, 15 for inequality in tenders. I am talking about accusations, not sentences, now what is important in these data. 85% of the cases belong to the first and second mandate. Simple logic says that it is not that the longer we stay in government there is corruption, but the longer we are in government, the more corruption is fought.
"There are even more cases that emerge from the graves of the past, beyond the paradox and it goes without saying outside the text, that 4 graves of murdered people are still seeking justice, but there is no rush to conduct inspections of homes, which do not need to be done in this case, nor to file charges for reasons that anyone can guess, but we do not actually know what they are. Another fact is that Albania is ranked by the EC, in the first place in the region for the integrity of public procurements", said Rama.
