Is there a rift between the 'Weaving Initiative' and Albania Becomes after the May 11 elections and what will happen to Adriatik Lapaj's mandate?
The leader of the Nisma Thurje, Endri Shabani, invited to Report TV, 'calms' his ally Lapaj, emphasizing that he has asked the CEC to recognize the resignations of the candidates on the closed list and go to the candidates on the open list. The 'Nisma Shqipëria Bëhet' coalition has won only one mandate in Tirana, where the most voted candidate on the open list is Lapaj himself.
"There is a media reality, a storm in a teacup was created. The belief was created that one of the Nisma activists had received the mandate, which did not happen. For 2 months we have been waiting for the CEC to make a decision on the distribution of mandates and the recognition of the resignations that we have filed and during this period time has passed, there have also been those developments, but practically nothing has happened. On Friday I sent a letter asking them to proceed as soon as possible with the recognition of the resignations that have been filed from the closed list and to proceed with the distribution to the open list, where Lapaj is in Tirana", said Shabani.
Shabani also explains in detail the debate over the mandate in Tirana and the history with candidate Zeqir Kordhoni, who is 'risking' Lapaj's seat in the Assembly.
According to Shabani, the candidate in question ran on an open list from Nisma Thurje, but 'Albania Becomes' placed him on a closed list because he was replaced with a woman to respect the gender quota.
Shabani says that Kordhoni wanted to run on an open list, but ended up on the closed list after Albania Becomes submitted the lists with the names of candidates at the 'last minute' to the CEC and then the time was too short to fix the error with the gender quota.
"Kordhoni is an activist of the initiative, who in 2023, was an election observer, distributed leaflets, was a candidate and wanted to be a candidate on the open list. Due to the electoral law, we have filed 40 candidates with Shqipëria Bëhet, which was the leading party of the coalition. They then filed it with the CEC, Shqipëria Bëhet delayed it until the end. He submitted the list at 12 midnight and as things happen at the last moment, there was a mistake where they moved more women to the closed list. The CEC returned it and gave him a very short deadline and due to the lack of legal balance, there were more women than what the law allows, they added Mr. Kordhoni to the closed list. He has requested information from the CEC, what the situation is, the documentation that has been filed. What you stated in the media was a request for information," Shabani emphasizes.
For Lapaj to enter the Assembly, the 12 candidates on the closed list must reject the mandate.
