The former head of the Central Election Commission, Kristaq Kume, has commented on the procedures for removing the immunity of former Prime Minister Sali Berisha to pave the way for his arrest.
Kume said that Berisha's mandate will not be affected until there is a final decision by the justice against the former head of the government for the accusation against him.
As for the possibility of Berisha setting the blue headquarters as his residential address, Kume emphasized that this is possible, but the court will still appoint law enforcement representatives and limit visitors to the former prime minister.
He added that if it happens that Berisha remains under house arrest until the 2025 elections, then he has every right to compete and be included in the list of candidates.
"I don't expect anything to happen for Berisha's mandate as long as there is no definitive decision on the charges against him. Berisha will have the mandate of the deputy until a final decision is made.
If his mandate is removed, he will be replaced by one of the names on the PD list for the district of Tirana
As for house arrest, in all cases of detention at home or in the office back home, there are law enforcement officers behind who do not allow you to leave and others to enter you.
It remains to be judged whether he will be allowed to communicate through the media or similar forms. When it comes to a man like Berisha, it will be necessary to intervene to standardize this action.
