The EU ambassador, Silvio Gonzato, seems to disagree with Fatmir Xhafaj.
Today in the premises of the Parliament of Albania, an open table was held for public debate for the consultation of the Analytical Document, on the topic "Integrity of Public Administration and the Provision of Digital Services for the Prevention of Corruption". The meeting was organized by the "Xhafaj" commission.
The focus of the table was the presentation of the main findings from the group of experts and issues needed for consultation and public debate regarding integrity in public administration.
But parallel to it, the Government launched the cross-sectoral strategy against corruption. The EU ambassador, Silvio Gonzato, was present at this event. According to him, SPAK is proving that it is fighting corruption and they don't have to reinvent the wheel a second time, hitting the "Xhafaj" commission.
" At the right time, also in terms of the work that is being developed in the Parliamentary Commission that is being led by Xhafaj, I would say that many of the issues that the commission will identify will be addressed by the effective implementation of this strategy, in this sense there is no need to we reinvent the wheel, defining priorities, objectives with certain deadlines, efforts against corruption are met effectively ", said Silvio Gonzato.
The head of SPAK, Altin Dumani, was also at the meeting. According to the EU ambassador, everyone should do their duty.
Minister of State Adea Pirdeni today presented Albania's new anti-corruption strategy, an initiative actively supported by the EU, which will promote greater transparency and accountability. Tackling corruption is an obligation from the accession negotiations, but it is not only that. It is something we owe to the Albanian people who expect to live in a fair and equal society.
Now, the focus should be on implementing the strategy through coordinated and comprehensive processes, including all relevant institutions and civil society. The EU is here to support Albania in these efforts through extensive technical assistance, targeted projects and financial support, including the Growth Plan ," he continued.
As for Xhafaj's table, the experts assessed that the analysis of the situation of ethics and integrity of the Public Administration in Albania takes on a special value to have an administration in European standards and dedicated to serving the citizens. Regarding the findings and problems on this issue, the experts expressed the lack of a clear chain of steps, procedures and deadlines when there are cases of violations of the Code of Ethics and integrity by officials or public servants, or in cases where they are denounced by citizens, media and interest groups.
