The ambassador of the European Union in Tirana, Silvio Gonzato, has given another blow to the government regarding integration reforms.

During an activity where the Public Administration Motivation plan was presented, he said that the administration should not have corruption, while adding that it should be transparent and accountable.

According to him, the administration is essential for EU integration and more should be done in this aspect.

"I think your role is key in the membership process. You are really Albania's assets for EU membership negotiations. Public administration is key. It is the machinery through which the country advances its priorities. I am glad that the government recognizes the importance of the public servant. There must be a corruption-free, transparent and accountable public administration to provide the best quality services to citizens and businesses. To enable Albania to play its full role as a member of the EU", said Gonzato.

Among other things, the ambassador emphasized that career systems based on merit are required. According to him, transparent systems are needed, based on the assessment of people's abilities.

"It is no coincidence that for the EU, public administration reform is essential like other elements of membership. The reform of public administration will be one of the determining factors of integration. Albania has adopted a realistic and ambitious roadmap and defines the most important steps for the civil service to be up to the task that awaits it. The EU is not sitting and waiting for these reforms to be made, but the EU is helping to implement them", said Gonzato.

The ambassador said, among other things, that 70% of the legislation of the European Union will have to be implemented at the local level.

"Yesterday we concluded a quarterly training project in the EU of the administration. Some were from the local level. We have said that 70% of the EU legislation will have to be implemented at the local level" , concluded Gonzato.
