And while it was expected that after the unity in diversity, some rules could be defined or the process of the primaries of 2023 could be improved, Berisha seems to have decided to throw in the "bin" what he considered as an innovation for the political transition in Albania.
The biggest promise Sali Berisha made when he started the battle to take "de jure" leadership of the Democratic Party in 2021 were the primaries.
Berisha promised that the candidates for mayor or deputies would be chosen by the party membership. He applied such a process in 2023 when he determined the mayoral candidates. Despite the fact that the process had many flaws and interference in the result, bringing out as winners names that had shown loyalty or had given evidence as loyal, Berisha sold it as the most positive development not only in DP, but in the entire Albanian politics.
And as if to show that this way of choosing or determining candidates would improve and not change, Berisha declared for the sanctioning of the voting power of DP members.
After numerous clashes in this party, the groups of Lulzim Basha and Sali Berisha, battles in the courts for the logo and seal, what happened was baptized as "unity in diversity". In short, the deputies who were once on Basha's side, joined Berisha's grouping, despite the fact that they could share different ideas and positions, and diversity was added to this union later.
From this moment, the united parties felt good with each other, they put aside the clashes and it seems that everyone entered into a competition about who would be more obedient to Berisha, who would flatter more and who would show more loyalty.
Everything was done and continues to be done with one goal: securing a place in what is considered a safe list for MPs, or 1/3 of the closed list.
And while it was expected that after the unity in diversity, some rules could be defined or the process of the primaries of 2023 could be improved, Berisha seems to have decided to throw in the "bin" what he considered as an innovation for the political transition in Albania.
The day before, when there are about 4 months left until the elections, Berisha avoided the question of when the primaries would be held, he neither affirmed nor denied it.
But at a time when the minimum number of names that want to compete have not been collected, which then, based on the status that Berisha himself has approved, must be verified and then submitted to the members' vote, according to the districts.
Maybe Berisha can decide to complete this process that takes his time within 1 day or 1 week and in the end declare that he kept his "word", but the biggest possibility is that he has canceled everything.
And perhaps the strongest reason for canceling the primaries is precisely "unity in diversity", since those who attacked them as sell-outs and traitors and today have them on their side, those who showed up with horns and sticks to protect the headquarters where they were sheltered Basha in January 2022, may not be able to be voted by the members who followed Berisha from December 11, 2021 when he called the Extraordinary Assembly, on December 18 2021 when the referendum was held, and in the primaries of 2023.
Many of today's deputies who are being servile and flattered might not be part of any of the lists for deputies, if the membership voted, or Berisha would have to once again fill the boxes and correct the minutes, as he did in 2023 when he appointed name of members, candidates for mayor. Now those who are on his side as MPs are the most obedient, the most stubborn, the most kneeling, despite the fact that after a few months with the end of the elections, they may appear as the most "rebellious". /Pamphlet/
