Anuela Ristani, who was appointed Mayor of Tirana this afternoon, following the arrest of Erion Veliaj on SPAK orders, said that none of those present had thought they would be on the podium under these conditions.
At the ceremony organized by the Municipality of Tirana on the occasion of the 105th anniversary of its proclamation as the capital of Albania, Ristani said that it feels like we are in a bad dream and will wake up in the same room where we left yesterday, where we were making to-do lists and sharing information like every Monday morning.
However, she emphasized that Tirana is bigger than any individual and the work of the Municipality will continue, regardless of the circumstances.
"Whoever we are, the work is behind us. The Prime Minister has been with us in these difficult hours, and we will regain the lost momentum. This surprise blow will motivate us even more ."
" I ask my colleagues to join me, all the deputy mayors. None of us here today would have thought that we would be on the podium. Not 5, but even 500 if we were, we would not be able to fill the void we feel. In more than a decade of daily work, what has united us does not match at all with the image we have heard in the last 24 hours. It seems to us as if we are in a bad dream and we will wake up in the same hall where we left yesterday where we were making to-do lists and sharing information like every Monday morning. But Tirana is bigger than us. Whoever we are at work is left behind. The Prime Minister has been by our side in these difficult hours. We will regain the lost rhythm and this surprise blow will motivate us even more ", said Ristani.
