Prime Minister Edi Rama has changed his strategy regarding the construction of the new port in Porto Romano. The project has remained blocked because no one takes over and it seems that the government will now go with internal financing.
In a press conference after the closing of the government meeting in Lezha, Rama spoke about other priorities this year.
" In the discussion about road and port infrastructure works, we have a very clear picture of the progress of work with the blue corridor. The Thumane-Kashar axis will be opened for traffic within the year, where almost 17% of the works are being completed. We will proceed before the season with the signing of contracts for Kashar-Rrogozhin, Rrogozhin-Lekaj. Work is underway on the first phase of the Milot-Muriqan segment. On the other hand, we have addressed the need for financing the large bypass in Elbasan.
We discussed the financing of the four km needed to connect 10 stations from Kashari to the center of Tirana. We are in the process and I believe that at the beginning of autumn we will conclude the contract for the work for Vorë-Hani i Hoti. We have obtained financing for Durrës-Rrogozhinë from European funds. Meanwhile, we have applied to go below, Rrogozhinë-Pogradec.
We also communicated with Kosovo about the progress of the Durrës-Prishtina railway project. It will pass from Shkodra to Gjakovë and Prishtina. This is a much desired solution from the side of Kosovo.
We have also calendared the process for opening the competition for the port of Durrës, Porto Romano, for which we will make a change in the nature of the financing, it is a strategic project and there is a strategic urgency because we have included NATO. We will go with internal financing so that we don't depend on the extended times and other burdens that originate from foreign financing ", said Rama.
