Basha sets conditions for the electoral reform, openly opposes the premium

The opposition represented in the Electoral Reform Commission seems firm in its demands for the new electoral system.
At a time when, on the one hand, we are seeing the merger of Gazment Bardhi's group with that of former Prime Minister Sali Berisha, the number of deputies supporting them reaches 43.

This means that Lulzim Basha remains with a smaller number of supporters in the parliament.
While the general elections will be held in 2025, Lulzim Basha seems to be trying to gain some security through changes in the electoral system by seeking coalitions.

In this aspect, his representative, as co-chairman of the Electoral Reform Commission, Enkelejd Alibeaj, has requested the return of coalitions. The SP removed the coalitions before the election, but the DP wants them to be restored.
The Electoral Reform Commission has convened online to listen to the proposals of political parties.
Alibeaj has clearly set the red line for consensus and negotiations.

Democrats will not accept the premium, a system that provides a bonus in seats for the party that won the majority.
"There is no chance to accept the premium, as it is in other systems. Today, it is right for Albanians to be governed by those political forces as much as they give them mandates and support. If you want to know about me, the system with coalitions is good because coalitions have a good chance of contradicting the autocracy of one party that takes everything", stated Alibeaj.

While the head of the LZHK, Dashamir Shehi articulated the need for a change in the system, with the integration of the vote of immigrants, electronic voting and open lists.

The head of the Republican Party Fatmir Mediu, Agron Duka of the Agrarian Environmentalist party and the chairman of the Union for Human Rights Party, Vangjel Dule did not participate in the commission meeting.
The next meeting will also be held online, where the representatives of the associations will express their demands for the vote of the diaspora.
