The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, has made strong statements from the SPAK premises where he appeared today in implementation of the "compulsory appearance" security measure.
He stated that the leader of the Freedom Party, Ilir Meta, is being held in prison without any facts, while adding that the mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, was visited in prison by the Minister of Justice Ulsi Manja and a businessman, threatening him.
Berisha said that Veliaj was told that he was speaking out and his wife, child, and all family members were suffering.
"The case of Ilir Meta is a case that you cannot imagine. Just because he gave an interview, they take away his right to any communication for 10 days, as if they were Stalinists or Nazis. Three family members go, sisters with their children, and one of the children is told, no, only three are allowed. And other cases. Plus, it is absolutely, every Albanian should know, without any facts in the file.
I do not defend anyone who has a criminal record. For Erion Veliaj, the case is as you saw, the witnesses one after the other, after they went to Rama's office, I don't know, but this is to prove, to investigate, they have given testimonies, which prove for me, prove the truth of the terrible thefts they committed.
They have behaved in the most unacceptable way with Erion Veliaj. And be assured, I have the worst regard for Erion Veliaj. But now it is what it is, but his rights cannot be determined by my will.
His rights are the rights of a citizen guaranteed by law and the constitution. For Edi Rama to take over the press office and publish unwritten statuses by Erion Veliaj, this could have happened in the darkest processes of the state security era.
What was the need to write statuses that Olsi Dado is such and such, and Altin Dumani is the hero that Edi Rama wanted, at a time when he was immersed. You saw for yourself that money was falling from the sky to Veliaca, with companies like these.
What was the need to do this? I tell you, there was a need because Edi Rama wanted to anger the judges and prosecutors with him and keep him where he is. This is very reprehensible to me, because this constitutes a criminal offense in itself.
Second, it is said that they mistreated her. Ulsi Manja's visit. On this visit, Ulsi Manja was accompanied by a businessman.
All the information is that the businessman was the main representative of the "Troplini" clan, who are leading them, and have sent others to give them an ultimatum that, if you speak, this is what your wife will suffer, this is what your child will suffer, this is what your grandmother will suffer, this is what your grandfather will suffer, and so on.
This too is an absolutely unacceptable and condemnable act.
"I stand by these and I am glad that the Ombudsman has been and is being dealt with. But I also ask the Ombudsman to go to prisons and see the endless horror," Berisha told the media.
