Sali Berisha, leader of the Democratic Party, has recently appointed former MP Xhemal Gjunkshi to the position of National Security Advisor. The decision was signed today and is based on Article 46 of the Democratic Party Statute.
The appointment takes effect immediately and comes within the framework of further strengthening the professional capacity-building structures within the Democratic Party.
Gjunkshi, once one of Lulzim Basha's supporters, joined the primaries called by Sali Berisha in 2025, while recently he was one of the participants in the meeting initiated by Ervin Salianji, with some of the names that in the last parliamentary elections resulted among the most voted from the open list of candidates. Gjunkshi, who has held leadership positions in the Armed Forces, received a mandate as an MP during the period when the DP was led by Lulzim Basha.
