Former Democratic MP Dashnor Sula stated that a former President of Albania received amounts ranging from 300 to 500 thousand euros to appoint a judge to the Supreme Court.
Sula did not mention names but said that everyone knows the amounts that were paid secretly to carry out transfers and appointments of judges and prosecutors, before the justice reform was implemented and the SPAK, BKH and the Special Court were established.
"We had reached the point where the perception of citizens and the reality was extremely serious because in addition to corruption that was not being tackled, we are talking about the legislature and the executive whose hands were almost tied because there was a prosecutor who was commanded by the Prosecutor General, and this one who was elected by politics and who was intimidated, violated and dismissed through politics. That is why the reform was carried out and the creation of SPAK, GJKKO and all other things. I am making a public statement and I am not afraid to say it.
Of course, I won't mention it by name, with other things, but within the justice system, there came a point when a former president who was in office at that time was able to appoint people to the Supreme Court or the Constitutional Court or transfer judges and prosecutors through bribery. He managed to pay 300,000, they say, up to 500,000€ for a place on the Supreme Court. Yes, 300 to 500,000€.
"I'll tell you now, and it's not just Dash Sula who says it, people around me say it too, everyone knows it. A bargain was made, a bargain was made. Neither the late Bujar Nishani did it, nor Rexhep Mejdani did it, nor... I'm not going to go any further. But they did it, and by doing this, the moment has come now. The first thing that happens when the judge himself wants to steal, to take out his own money. Imagine the Supreme Court and the Constitutional Court being the pinnacle, the pinnacle of justice. And we all live in Albania, we find out how corrupt Dashi is, how corrupt the other one is, how much the other one does. The transfer of judges, €100,000, went to prosecutors, €5,000, or the promotion from the First Instance to the Appeals Court, and many other things," Sula said on A2 CNN.
