" A major illness has struck the DP that must be urgently cured ." This is how former DP MP Edmond Spaho considers the current situation in the party, which is on the verge of electing a new leader.
On "Report TV", Spaho said that Sali Berisha will not allow anyone else to be an alternative in the internal elections to be held on May 23, and then adds that anyone who speaks a word against him will find himself at the door. This is also the case of Ervin Salianj, who, although "self-excluded" as Berisha says, will run to take over the leadership of the DP.
" This practice also aims to control the electoral process, to have people who give orders, to be loyal. Why shouldn't you allow someone who meets the conditions of the statute to run? If they meet the basic conditions, put them in the race and let the vote decide who will be elected."
Even the fact that Salianj was excluded shows that there could be both reasons, but the most important thing is that the process is becoming selective. On the one hand, we talk about openness, we call on civil society to join us, on the other hand, people are not allowed to run for DP chairman, for branch chairman. Why should someone else come, to be subservient to you for everything, not to talk about any other alternative, because otherwise the door is shown. This is a big and deep disease in the DP that must be urgently cured , "said Spaho.
Spaho also hypothesizes the emergence of "Lulëzim Basha number 2", the only option where Sali Berisha can give up the leadership of the DP and place his successor at the helm.
" It is not being allowed, the intention is to have a unanimous solution where the only candidate will be Berisha with the greatest probability, but I would not be surprised if on the last day a Lulëzim Basha 2 emerges, maybe even resigns and appoints his deputy. The problem is small, but I would not be surprised ," said the former DP MP.
Among other things, Spaho says that the Democratic Party cannot come to power with this current situation today. The opposition protests do not inspire and do not have the power to overthrow the government of Edi Rama. Regarding the long stay in the opposition, Spaho said that the opposition MPs feel comfortable with that status while another "justification" is the waiting for the next one (according to age) to take over the leadership of the party.
" It doesn't matter what I say, it matters what is happening on the ground. The protests show that the DP does not have the strength to come to power. If you don't manage to raise the entire people, raise awareness, create a spirit, you won't be able to remove Rama."
"Apparently, a group of MPs feel comfortable with remaining MPs and are waiting for the time to come for Berisha's successor to emerge, as there comes a time when biological age comes, they say let's wait until it's our turn to take over the party ," said Spaho.
