Former President Ilir Meta has filed a new request with the Special Court (GJKKO) to replace the security measure of "prison arrest" with a lighter measure.
Ilir Meta has offered a financial guarantee of 50 thousand euros, requesting the easing of the security measure against him. A similar request was filed on March 24, 2026, but was rejected by the court. In that case, special judge Paulin Cera decided not to change the measure, leaving the detention in force.
In the previous request, Meta had presented several alternatives, from house arrest to financial guarantee, but none of them were accepted.
The case against Ilir Meta went to trial on March 18. He and his ex-wife, Monika Kryemadhi, face charges of corruption, money laundering, and concealment of assets, in connection with three investigations: the CEZ-DIA case, the SMI lobbying in the United States, and the wealth investigation.
Pirro Xhixho, Ema Çoku and Fatime Kryemadhi are also defendants in the same trial. According to SPAK's indictment, Xhixho faces charges of corruption, while Çoku and Kryemadhi face charges of money laundering.
SPAK alleges that Meta exercised unlawful influence in several episodes related to the CEZ-DIA case, an interconnection agreement and legal changes. Meanwhile, Monika Kryemadhi is accused of passive corruption in two cases committed in collaboration.
According to the investigations, Pirro Xhixho is suspected of having used his position as former head of AKEP to influence in favor of suspected corrupt agreements, claiming that he acted in accordance with the orders of Meta and Kryemadhi.
