Athens and Thessaloniki have given surprises in the local elections in Greece. Greeks voted to change mayors in Sunday's local government runoff in Greece, with candidates backed by the ruling conservatives losing to independents or candidates backed by opposition parties.
When more than 95% of the votes for the Athens municipality were counted, Haris Doukas, supported by PASOK, was declared the winner. He received about 55.9% against the 44.01% of the current chairman, Kostas Bakoyanis of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis' "New Democracy".
In Thessaloniki, Stelios Angeloudis leads the opposition with 67.34% of the votes against the acting mayor Konstantinos Zervas (32.96%), while 98% were counted.
The nephew of Prime Minister Mitsotakis, Kostandin Bakoyanis, the mayor of Athens and the mayor of Thessaloniki, Zervas, were in Himare where they held a rally for the release of Fred Beleri.
Socialist MP Erion Braçe has ironized the two mayors, Kostas and Zervas, who lost in the last elections, wishing them "success in life".
"Electoral madness", the socialist called their arrival in Himara to campaign.
So, Braçe has a suggestion for them, to continue the pressure campaign on the Albanian justice for the release of Fredi Beler.

It wouldn't even be news - these were local elections in #GREECE; for us Albanians I say; But both messed up the campaign;
In the middle of the SUMMER VACATION and AT THE PEAK OF THE TOURIST SEASON, they came to our Himara and campaigned to win the elections in the municipalities of Athens and Thessaloniki; ELECTORAL AND POLITICAL MADNESS!
Today, both are deeply lost! How was that expression; EDI RAMA DOESN'T KNOW WHO HE IS MESSING WITH?!
So? Of course, of course! As of today, I have two prayers for both of you:
First, to continue the pressure campaign on the ALBANIAN JUSTICE to release ALfred BELER; don't let it go;
Second, come again next August, for the beach - of course, now you have plenty of time", writes Braçe.
