The 'Beleri' case, the German media attack Athens: Mitsotakis empty

The German media have dedicated an article to the relationship between the two countries Albania-Greece, regarding the 'Beleri' case....

"Greece cannot block the integration of Albania in the European Union" . So writes the well-known German newspaper, "Frankfurten Allemagnem Zeitung".

In an article analyzing Albanian-Greek relations, the German newspaper points out that Greek threats to block Albania's integration are empty words.

"In general, there has been only one case in recent years when a government tried to exert political pressure on Albania's justice, and that was the Greek government in the Beleri case, mocking the head of the Albanian government, prone to sarcasm. Athens has been threatening for months that it will block Albania's EU membership talks if Beleri remains in custody," the German newspaper said.

The German media also points out that Prime Minister Edi Rama knows very well that the so-called perspective of the EU is nothing more than an illusion.

"This is the reason why the threat to hinder a process that has not progressed for years will hardly scare the prime minister of Albania", the German newspaper said.

Meanwhile, "Frankfurter Allemangnem Zeitung" writes that the Greek Prime Minister has two goals with the selection of Beler, where first Athens wants to draw the attention of Brussels as much as possible to this issue.

"The Beleri case is "a battle" for the values of the West and Europe. These values must be respected by all who are interested in belonging to the great European family. So far, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Brussels officials have considered the Beller case a bilateral issue. The Greek Prime Minister thinks differently, since for him the issue is about how Albania treats ethnic minorities, how Albanian justice works , the German newspaper said.

"The government in Athens claims that the actions of the Albanian judiciary are politically motivated and aim to silence an internal political opponent of the Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama. Rama objects, pointing out that the Special Anticorruption Prosecutor's Office of Albania, which sued Beler, was established under EU pressure and is being closely monitored by Brussels. He cannot interfere in the work of the independent judiciary," the German newspaper said.
