Ferit Hoxha warns of the end of the migrant agreement with Italy, then is forced to deny it...
Ferit Hoxha is creating the profile of a minister of gaffes and contradictory statements, which he is often forced to deny himself just a few hours later.
After the scandal with the message to the Albanians of North Macedonia, the Albanian chief diplomat was involved in another political and media storm after an interview with the European media outlet " EurActiv ", where he spoke about the agreement between Albania and Italy on immigrants.
In his statement, Hoxha made it clear that the agreement would not be renewed after the end of the five-year term, linking this to the claim that Albania will be part of the European Union by 2030.
" Firstly, it's for five years and I'm not sure if there will be an extension. Secondly, there will be no extension because we will be members of the European Union ," he told EurActiv.
The statement immediately resonated, as it was interpreted as a signal that official Tirana is withdrawing from the agreement that Edi Rama has publicly defended with force. The Prime Minister himself has described Giorgia Meloni as his "little sister" and stated that Albania did that "honor" only to Italy and no one else.
But after the huge uproar and the interpretation of the statement as an official position of the Albanian government, Ferit Hoxha was forced to react publicly to defuse the situation. In a post on the “X” platform, he claimed that the statement had been taken out of context and that it was not a political decision.
“ A journalist in Brussels asked me whether the protocol between Albania and Italy would be renewed after the end of the initial five-year period. I replied by saying: ‘I am not sure, assuming that by then Albania will be a member state of the European Union and the situation will, therefore, be different.’ It was that simple ,” Hoxha wrote.
He further added that the statement was only a "momentary reflection" and should not be interpreted as a change in Albania's position towards the agreement with Italy.
But this is precisely where the problem lies. Diplomatic relations with a strategic partner like Italy and such a sensitive agreement on migrants are not handled with "spontaneous reflections", hasty statements or vague comments in the international media. Such issues require institutional coordination and maximum diplomatic care.
This is the second time in a few weeks that the Foreign Minister has been involved in a communications scandal. Just two weeks ago, Hoxha became the protagonist of an unprecedented episode, when in an official communications group with ambassadors and his subordinates he described the Albanians of North Macedonia as "idiots". Initially he denied the incident, but the message was later deleted.
Even the argument he used for the agreement with Italy seems contradictory to the government's own narrative. The agreement is five years old and there are still several years left before its implementation, while Edi Rama himself has publicly admitted that Albania is not expected to join the European Union within this deadline. In this sense, Hoxha's statement seems not only hasty, but also contrary to the line that the Albanian government itself has maintained so far. /Pamphlet

Mos doni që edhe ministri Hoxha t’i ulet në gjunjë Melonit, si kryeministri ynë i papërgjegjshëm dhe gaztor?
