Democratic Party primaries, Kreshnik Çollaku against: They will not

DP MP Kreshnik Çollaku, in a Skype connection with News 24, spoke about the primary process that is taking place within the Democratic Party.

Çollaku said that the primaries in the Democratic Party are being held too late. He added that all opposition parties must unite in order to succeed in the elections.

"Primaries are a delicate process because they come 40 days before the candidate registration deadline and 100 days before the election."

It's an inappropriate time for this process. It's a vote within the party. It's a kind of "fight" within the party, it's definitely democratic.

At the base, the DP continues to be divided. In the Dibra region, the DP has four branches and they are divided. The primaries are being held too late, they should have been held 1 year ago. The DP must unite for electoral success. By uniting with each other, we can also unite with the Albanians. The list should only include those people who supported Sali Berisha in the stadium.

"Primaries will not guarantee coexistence. In the primaries, I believe Berisha's supporters will win, as he has the greatest support from the Democrats. All opposition parties must unite. I believe the primary will hurt the unity of the Democrats," said Çollaku.

Speaking about the diaspora vote, Çollaku stated that all Albanians living abroad should vote in the elections.

"All Albanians in the diaspora should vote in the elections. The primaries prevent the DP from working harder for the diaspora vote. But the diaspora vote is in the majority for the opposition. This is because Albanians living abroad are dissatisfied with the government of Prime Minister Edi Rama. The more divided, the weaker the opposition. The processes of unification are vital. Even Sali Berisha has said that the DP must unite.

Çollaku further underlined that there is hope that the new American administration will remove Sali Berisha's wife. He added that the DP is regulating relations with internationals.

"There is hope that Sali Berisha's persona non grata will be removed under the Donald Trump administration. The new American administration may review Berisha's persona non grata. There is an attempt to normalize relations between the US and the DP, overcoming the blockade phase that we experienced some time ago," said Collaku.
