Ferit Hoxha, Minister of Foreign Affairs, during a report to the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Policy, said that Albania's objective is its membership in the European Union in 2030. Hoxha denied the claims made by the opposition for blocking negotiations with the EU, while saying that the process continues normally, in accordance with the plans jointly determined with the EU. Hoxha even stated that none of the EU countries has vetoed Albania.
" In the public debate, it has been claimed more than once that the process has been blocked, that certain countries have vetoed it (9 such countries were claimed) or that Albania is no longer advancing. Understanding the special interest in this process and respecting the public debate regardless of the approach, I would like to say clearly and responsibly: these claims do not hold up.
There was and is no blockage, there was and is no veto from any member state. The process has continued and is continuing normally. Even the European Union Delegation in Tirana has publicly confirmed this fact.
Our objective is clear: to do our part seriously and move forward in line with our ambition and the joint plan with the European Commission, moving closer every day to the realization of our strategic goal, full membership in the European Union by the 2030 horizon ," said Hoxha.
Following the report, the Foreign Minister stated that the priority now remains the passage of the IBAR intermediate points, for which there is still no decision from Brussels. He emphasized that the report submitted to the EU Council by the Commission, on the Assessment of the Intermediate Points (IBAR), has been positive for Albania.
" What we know for sure is that the Commission's recommendations to the Council have been positive, recognizing the progress achieved and the fulfillment of milestones, as well as recommending the continuation of the process towards their approval ," stressed Hoxha.
