While the Italian prime minister has sold the pact for immigrants as a European model and a success story!
The plan of the Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni and her Albanian counterpart Edi Rama for the reception of immigrants in the two camps Gjadër and Shengjin failed. The opening of the two reception centers would bring as many as 3,000 migrants caught in Italian waters and have their asylum claims examined across Italy's borders, monitored by Italian police officers.
Meanwhile, the migrant camp in Gjadër is empty, which cost 1 billion euros but was turned into a shelter for dogs. Only 24 asylum seekers came to Albania. Five spent less than 12 hours in a detention center, while the rest stayed for just over 48 hours. In conclusion, they all returned to Italy after the decision of the Court of Rome, which requested the return of all immigrants to their country.
In November around 50 officers, along with dozens of social workers, returned to Italy when it emerged that the facilities were empty.
While the Italian prime minister has sold the pact for immigrants as a European model and a success story, who in an interview for "Corriere" said that this agreement is a very good innovative solution. She adds that this serves as a lesson for Europe and beyond.
Asked if the clash with the judges, related to the opposition of this pact brings benefits to the Italian government, she answered saying that this pact should be a model for Europe and beyond, while both camps are expected to be empty.
"The executive has made clear choices to manage immigration and the protocol with Albania is one of them. It is a very innovative solution, which is becoming a model in Europe and beyond, because it is clear to everyone that it can give a death blow to criminal organizations that take advantage of migrants to increase their profits" , said Meloni for " Courier".
