The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, participated in the International Democratic Union (IDU) forum in Zagreb, where he presented the concerns of the Albanian opposition regarding the political and economic situation in the country.
"We come here to this world forum to present the major issues of Albania and the region from our perspective," Berisha declared.
In his speech, Berisha raised strong accusations about the way the country is being run, linking this to obstacles in the European integration process.
"The very serious obstacles that Edi Rama, by extending Albania into an electoral autocracy or authoritarian dictatorship, has created and continues to create to the integration process," he said.
One of the strongest statements was about building a "narco-state" in Albania.
"Albania is facing a major problem... with the construction of the first and only narco-state in Europe," Berisha said.
He added that criminal groups have a direct influence on decision-making and pose a security risk. Berisha also touched on the economic situation, emphasizing that the country is facing great difficulties.
“The destruction or serious damage to the Albanian economy” was another concern he raised, citing the impact on exports, manufacturing and agriculture.
The chief democrat also stated that criminal networks have also penetrated digital systems, describing this as a threat to national and regional security.
During the forum, Berisha held meetings with senior international representatives and announced that the issue of Albania will also be discussed in panels dedicated to the Balkans and security.
"We will present to international partners concerns about 'electoral autocracy' and obstacles on the path to the EU.

Major problems related to security in the region, major problems related to the process of Albania's integration into the European Union, the very serious obstacles that Edi Rama, by extending Albania into an electoral autocracy or authoritarian dictatorship, has created and continues to create to the integration process, by building the first and only narco-state in Europe, the destruction or severe damage to the Albanian economy due to the dramatic devaluation of the euro and the dollar, the very severe blow to exports, industrial production, and agricultural production.
"So, we have, besides the fact that it is known that drug clans are today the main and most important decision-makers, but as recent discoveries have proven, they managed to control the entire internet of Albania with all the data of Albanians ," Berisha said.
