The only democratic thing within the Democratic Party seems to be the name it bears, the rest resembles a bunker from the time of dictator Enver Hoxha, the keys to which are held by Sali Berisha and a handful of people who hang around him, preventing new spirit from penetrating and refreshing it.
This became clear after the publication of the procedure for electing the Chairman of the Democratic Party. Although on the surface, allowing this process to take place shows a form of democracy within the party, the conditions set for this competition paint a completely different picture.
The DP's guidelines for the elections define the criteria that a candidate for the head of the Democratic Party must meet, where in addition to political contribution, the fact that persons who have been convicted by a final decision are prohibited from running, such as the case of Ervin Salianj, is also noteworthy.
The DP had announced the ban on Salijanj from running on the grounds that he had self-excluded himself, but after today's announcement, their mission has been achieved.
" The criteria for candidates for Chairman of the DPA are: 1-Member of the Democratic Party, a figure with a very high public and political profile, with at least 10 years of political and electoral engagement in the Democratic Party. 2- To have leadership experience at the national/regional level in the political battles of the Democratic Party, for civic and political causes. 3- To meet the eligibility criteria according to Law No. 138/2015 "On guaranteeing the integrity of persons elected, appointed or exercising public functions"" , the announcement states.

" The deadline for submitting the application for candidacy, together with the relevant documentation according to the provisions of the DPA Statute, the Internal Regulations of the Democratic Party and the Code of Ethics, is April 30, 2026 at 12:00 ," the announcement states.
