Ilir Alimehmeti demands a recount of votes in all CEAZs of the Tirana District, where he was running on the open list as part of the 'PD-ASHM' coalition.
Alimehmeti is demanding a recount and re-evaluation of the votes, with suspicions that there is a distortion of the election result and preferential votes.
The well-known doctor has requested the Electoral College to overturn the decision that did not allow candidates to request a vote recount, while the KAS previously rejected the complaints of 4 candidates, claiming that according to the Electoral Code, only parties participating in the process have this right.
The only KAS member who spoke in favor of the recount was Ilir Rusmali, while the other 4 members, two from the ruling party and two from the opposition, joined the votes and rejected the submitted complaints.
Sali Berisha, leader of the Democratic Party, considered the KAS decision legal, citing articles of the Electoral Code and previous practices, while he had previously stated that he would support the requests for vote recounts by the candidates. But Berisha stressed that the process being followed by the opposition is divided into phases, where the results certified by the CEC are currently being attacked.
The Electoral College is now expected to make a decision on whether the preferential votes in Tirana will be recounted and re-evaluated as Alimehmeti requests, or whether the same 'game' will continue where only the parties participating in the process have the right to open the ballot boxes.
Also, another candidate of the 'PD-ASHM' coalition who is demanding a recount of votes is Aulon Kalaja. The latter is demanding a recount in the Durrës District, claiming that the vote was distorted. Kalaja received over 7 thousand preferential votes, but 1 thousand less than former prosecutor Ndoj, who was running on the open list in this district.
The Democratic Front Party, one of the entities that was in coalition with the DP, also addressed the College regarding the recount of votes in Durrës.
Initially, the members of the body that will consider the submitted requests will be assigned through a draw, and then the hearings and a decision are expected. It remains interesting to see what stance the legal representatives of the parties, in the specific case of the DP, will take towards the complaints to the College.
