Albana Koçiu

Interior Minister Albana Koçiu has reacted to developments during the Democratic Party protest, condemning acts of violence and the use of incendiary devices near state institutions.

In a public reaction, Koçiu stated that attempts to approach the State Police building with Molotov cocktails in their hands do not constitute an act of protest, but an attempt to provoke and escalate the situation.

" Going with Molotov cocktails in hand towards the State Police building is not an act of protest, but an open provocation and a feverish desire for escalation, attempting to delegitimize the force of law in the face of street pressure. They march like liberators on the streets of the capital, while they are the very ones whom Albanians have voted out of politics ," writes Koçiu.

The minister used harsh tones towards opposition leaders, describing the situation as an attempt to tense the political climate.

" Hiding behind a gang of Molotov cocktails, this Don Quixote who fights with garbage cans as if with windmills, has turned the first pluralist party into a gang of arsonists. This fire cannot burn any reform or the European future of Albania, but only the last remnants of an opposition that no longer knows who it is, where it is going, or why it is shouting ," her reaction continues.

The minister's statement comes after tensions were registered during the opposition march in Tirana, where there were clashes between protesters and law enforcement near the Police Directorate. The situation in the capital remains under increased monitoring by security structures.
