The head of the parliamentary group of the Democratic Party, Gazmend Bardhi, has spoken about his relationship with the former leader of the DP Lulzim Basha, while emphasizing that they have a close political and human relationship. Bardhi has also said that there is no objection regarding his candidacy for the head of the DP.
He has also stated that his attitudes are not individual, but are attitudes that the status gives him for the position he has in the party, and I will not take any side in relation to the persons who have ambitions to lead the DP.
"My positions are principled, coherent positions and have nothing to do with any individual, much less with Mr. Basha, as you are aware of the very close human and political relationship that I have with Mr. Basha, but when it comes to the secretary's decision-making In general, I will maintain the same position as defined by the DP statute.
I have maintained the same position when there was another debate in the Democratic Party, where a part of the members of the party's assembly, bypassing the general secretary and the National Council, held a meeting on December 11 and each of us called it illegal. I am holding the same standard now, as I am not debating for my personal interest, but for the path that leads the party forward. It is in no way my objection to Basha as our relationship is already known.
In order for there to be a contest, the rules must be followed, and at the moment we are talking without the national council meeting, I recognize the presidency's proposal, but it is only one of the stages to have an election process and the procedure must be followed. As general secretary, I ran a pair of elections for 2021, but I did not interfere in the process. The Secretary General cannot take sides. Until these moments, I do not know that Mr. Basha has shown his ambition for the leadership of the Party, and I cannot allude to it. In principle, anyone who fulfills the criteria according to the statute has the right to run", said Bardhi for "Tirana Live".
Asked if he will run for the head of the party, Bardhi has emphasized that he cannot and does not want to run as he has no ambition to lead the DP and the situation where the party is at the moment only the General Secretary is the only executive body in task.
According to Bardhi, his interest is the organization and reconstruction of the democratic party so that it emerges as strong as possible.
"I repeat that I cannot and will not run, as I have no ambition and secondly because of the party's situation. I cannot support a facade process that contradicts what we in the war and the language of division between the parties continues, this erodes the opposition and strengthens the opposition and strengthens the SP, we need to start an awareness campaign within the party that the path within the party weakens the opposition and strengthens Rama. What happened on May 14 is not in the interest of either the DP or the opposition," said Bardhi.
