The President of the European People's Parties, Manfred Weber, has declared that the European Union should join the Western Balkan countries in the union as soon as possible, because the future looks difficult, especially if Donald Trump becomes President of the United States of America again.
"Donald Trump has taken the first steps towards the White House, with (the victory in) Iowa. We know the world will change if Donald Trump is re-elected. And Europe must prepare for it now. We have difficult times ahead for the European Union. Therefore, cohesion is important", said Webber in a joint conference with Prime Minister Edi Rama and the Prime Minister of Bavaria, Markus Söder.
"Therefore, there must be a clear European perspective for the Western Balkans, for Albania, in order to become members of this community. To strengthen ourselves, to stay united in this continent".
Rama is in the German state invited to participate in the traditional meeting of the beginning of the year of the Christian Social Union (CSU) at the invitation of the prime minister of Bavaria, Söder.
The latter also called for the fastest possible membership of our country in the EU. "The old connection (between Bavaria and Albania) also has a future that we want. One is the clear commitment that Albania belongs to the European Union. The EPP, but also us as (political party) CSU and the state government, have spoken very early.
We believe it is important in order to strengthen the European Union in global competition. I also believe that a strong, expanded Europe is very, very important, especially in relation to the entire Western Balkans, precisely because of the challenges that Europe is facing from abroad".
