Taulant Balla, head of the Socialist Party Parliamentary Group, responding to opposition MPs during the plenary session, where the Ombudsman is being debated, said that no one is saying why this issue should be removed from the agenda.
"We are hearing jokes, but we are not hearing any arguments. You talk about rabbits, but I am telling you then we should also talk about greyhounds. And I will also tell you the names of greyhounds."
"You are making fun of Besim Ndregjoni, you have been making fun of him for so long, because you also know that according to the law he cannot be elected because he is over 70 years old. But you think that since he is 81 years old and you say go ahead, we are making someone who is 77 years old. You are also making fun of Adriana Kalana," Balla said.
Balla's statement came after the opposition is demanding that the issue of electing the new Ombudsman be removed from the agenda, with the argument that none of the candidates presented has the support of the opposition, due to the fact that the signatures have been withdrawn.
Earlier, Democratic leader Sali Berisha said that "the banal evil of the nation is you. This parliament has a Laws Committee, which the law and the Constitution charge with reviewing and organizing the voting procedure for the People's Advocate. We implemented the decision of the Committee, withdrawing all the excess signatures, but you are now overturning this decision to rob the People's Advocate.
He added that the decision of the Laws Committee is clear, each MP can only provide one signature for one candidate, and any other violation cannot be accepted. Berisha stressed that the candidate that the opposition has supported, referred to as “Surrel’s Rabbit”, cannot receive any signatures in accordance with this decision.
