Analyst Ergys Mërtiri has commented on the situation the Democratic Party finds itself in today, referring to the creation of two 'camps', one of Sali Berisha and the other of Ervin Salianj, along with Ilir Alimehmet and others who received the most votes from the primaries.
Mërtiri says that Berisha is reacting harshly because of the political nightmare he finds himself in today, added to the successive defeats in elections and the protest organized every Monday in front of the prime minister's office, where fewer and fewer people gather every week.
"I don't believe it's a tough battle as long as the group that took this initiative is not being tough on Berisha. There is one-sided harshness here, it's Berisha being tough on them and them being soft on Berisha. This disproportionality shows the situation Berisha is in. Berisha is in a political nightmare. Everything, no matter how strong or soft, confuses him because it goes against reason. At a time when he can barely gather 200-300 people in the square, he has lost 3 quarters of the votes received in 2021, the party has sunk into apathy. Everyone has lost faith and everyone logically believes that he should leave because he is sinking the party towards destruction," Mërtiri told Report TV.
Among other things, the professor said that Berisha replaced the word protest with that of a lectern, to justify the small number of citizens present on the boulevard.
"What they are doing with the meetings is highlighting the problems. The podium itself is a protest. He cannot gather people in the square, he says it is a podium and not a protest because he cannot justify the fact that there are so few people in the protests," said Mërtiri.
While commenting on the reactions made yesterday by Berisha, Mërtiri said that his threats work on unstable people like Alimehmeti, but not on Ervin Salianji, who seems determined in his initiative to reform the Democratic Party.
"Berisha's threats work for some and not for others. A soft and indecisive man like Alimehmeti eats the pressures and needs to calm Berisha down who are not against him. Salianji needs to be more determined in the initiative he has taken. The one who is more determined benefits more in politics. With Berisha, they have no future, not even those who are on Berisha's side today," said the analyst.
