Lulzim Basha's decision to exclude Sali Berisha from the Parliamentary Group of the Democratic Party, after she had earlier been declared non-grata by the Americans, marked the starting point of a long and tiring war between the Democrats. This personal decision of Basha was not well received by Sali Berisha, who gave the first message from the courtyard of the Assembly, after he was also informed by Lindita Nikolla that in this legislature he could not be called a deputy of the Democratic Party.
Despite this stance, Lulzim Basha repeated once again that his stance cannot be undone.
While the democrats were still surprised and were not receiving any explanation from Lulzim Basha, it was Sali Berisha himself who reacted again by starting meetings with the base, baptized as Foltorja.
For months on end, the historical leader of the Democratic Party attacked Albania, to inform the democrats that he was aiming to return to the head of the Democratic Party. But also to explain that Lulzim Basha had made the decision under the conditions of a hostage in the hands of Prime Minister Rama.
During the meetings, Berisha collected the signatures of the delegates and on December 11, 2021, he called the National Assembly, announcing the dismissal of Lulzim Basha and the creation of the Reestablishment Commission, as a temporary collegial body that would lead the party in the elections.
A week later, Lulzim Basha gave the first answer to Sali Berisha by convening his National Assembly and announced that apart from leaving the group, the historic leader could no longer be a simple democrat as a member of the party.
At the same time, the Re-establishment Commission held a referendum ratifying the decision of the National Assembly and Lulzim Basha was dismissed from the post of chairman.
The Reestablishment Commission requested the start of work, but the lack of offices became an obstacle, so they requested to take over the headquarters. January 8, 2022 will be long remembered for Democrats, as the war of words escalated into a physical confrontation for the seat.
This first attempt failed. In a difficult moment for Berisha, Ilir Meta brought him oxygen from the office of the President of the Republic. On March 6, 2022, the country went to partial local elections, where Reestablishment candidates achieved a better result than representatives of the official DP. Without party seal and logo, Berisha confirmed through the vote who the democrats believed.
Lulzim Basha waited more than 2 weeks and on March 21 publicly announced his resignation. Only 4 days later, the Court of First Instance with judge Agron Zhukrin recognized the Assembly of December 11, 2021 and its decisions. In these conditions, Basha's supporters were forced to leave the headquarters.
The Reestablishment activity continued at the headquarters, while Sali Berisha waited for the May 22 elections to be officially announced as the chairman of the Democratic Party. Elected president and with the headquarters in his hands, Sali Berisha started a new battle, recognition by state bodies.
The elections of May 14, 2023 were the next challenge, where in front of Ilirjan Celibashi, KAS or the Electoral College, the representatives of Berisha wanted to be recognized as a Democratic Party in the elections. In addition to the rejections from state institutions, Reestablishment was also hit by the decision of the Court of Appeal on March 3, 2023, which overturned Zhukri's decision.
Without a seal, a logo, but with headquarters, Rithemelimi continued its political activity, while Lulzim Basha waited for the results of the elections and on July 29 he returned to the chair that his confidant Enkelejd Alibeaj had kept for a year.
Both sides now had a court decision in their hands, with which they appealed to the Supreme Court. A long wait, but the higher body was harsh with Apel who favored Basha, recognizing as correct the first degree of judge Zhukri.
The second decision of the Appeal, this Tuesday, seemed more like a formalization of the decision dictated by the Supreme Court, raising questions about the political future of Lulzim Basha. /A2 CNN
