Socialist Party MP Erion Braçe has reacted sharply to warnings about a possible increase in oil prices in Albania, related to recent developments in the Middle East.
Braçe accuses hydrocarbon market operators of abuse and attempts to increase prices unjustifiably.
In a post on social media, Braçe states that representatives of the fuel market, who according to him act as a "cartel", have announced a price increase of 20 lek per liter within 48 hours and up to 40 lek in the following. According to them, this increase is related to movements in international stock exchanges.
However, the socialist MP disputes this argument, emphasizing that the price of diesel at the pump is currently 173 lek per liter and has remained unchanged for about a year, despite fluctuations in the stock market or the depreciation of major currencies such as the dollar and euro.
Braçe warned that, if quick measures are not taken, citizens and the government itself will face the cost of price increases, while market operators will benefit from the situation.
He also recalled that the Hydrocarbons Board, created during the war in Ukraine to monitor fuel prices, has never been declared unconstitutional. According to him, if it functions professionally and with a focus on the public interest, this mechanism can serve to curb abuses in the fuel market.
"How, how, are you going to increase the price of oil?? The hydrocarbon cartel, which acts as an association, has said that it will increase the price by 20 lek per 48 hours, up to 40 lek per liter in the future!"

The price of oil at the pump today is 173 lekë; it has been like this for a year and has not moved a single day!
The stock market changed, the dollar and the euro collapsed and the price of these did not change, zero, not a penny! Now the price will change in 48 hours from the war?!
I also told my colleagues in the Socialist Party this morning: when abuse screams, the countermeasure must be swift and effective!
Otherwise, we will pay for the abuse as citizens and as a government, they will simply get richer!
"Last thing; The Hydrocarbons Board that was used during the war in Ukraine has never been declared unconstitutional! If it is professional and focused on the public interest, it could be one of the countermeasures against abuse," writes Braçe.
