Prime Minister Edi Rama and opposition leader Sali Berisha have expressed almost identical positions regarding the American attack on nuclear power plants in Iran, openly supporting the decision of US President Donald Trump.
Despite the fact that American politics itself seems divided in positions, while Democrats in the US claim that Trump, by bypassing Congress, has violated the US Constitution, Rama and Berisha do not hesitate to express their public support for the US President's decision.
Both even consider Tehran's regime or dictatorship to be theocratic. Regardless of who reacted sooner and who later, it seems that the two political figures in Tirana at least have the same positions in relation to Iran, or are advised by the same advisors.
And while many EU leaders have been reserved in their public reactions, emphasizing mainly the launch of negotiations for a solution, it seems that in Tirana, there is a competition over who will appear most 'pro' to Trump and the bombing of nuclear power plants.
In his post on 'X', Prime Minister Rama writes that Tehran's theocratic regime cannot equip itself with nuclear weapons.
Meanwhile, Berisha writes on Facebook that Iranians must unite to overthrow the theocratic dictatorship.
Rama's reaction
"This is not just another nuclear state. Nor just a dictatorship with nuclear ambitions. This is a theocracy armed with apocalyptic rhetoric, steeped in 70 years of branding free nations as "Satanic" and openly calling for their extermination."
"In every respect, it is a unique deviation, unlike any nuclear-armed state, regardless of political system," Rama wrote in his online post.
He further emphasizes that "as a nation that emerged from the abyss of a brutal atheocratic regime, as a proud member of the free world, and as a strategic partner of the United States, Albania strongly supports President Trump's sincere efforts to prevent the theocratic regime in Tehran from ever acquiring nuclear weapons."
Berisha's position
On the other hand, former Prime Minister and leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, in his reaction writes that the obliteration, de facto annihilation last night of the nuclear potential of the Ayatollahs of Iran by US air power is a new opportunity and a powerful call for Iranians in Iran and in the world to unite for the overthrow of the obscurantist theocratic dictatorship and for a free and democratic Iran. The former Prime Minister has also held a stance against Iran a few days ago. Berisha wrote on the day Israel launched attacks on Iran that the theocratic dictatorship of the Ayatollahs of Tehran is towards its deserved end!
"The strikes at the heart of the regime by the US-backed Israeli air force, the annihilation of the terrorist elite of the Guard and the Ayatollahs' army, defense systems and nuclear plants and other strategic facilities, are leading the dictatorial, obscurantist, warmongering and destabilizing regime of Tehran towards its deserved end," Berisha wrote.
