Meta requests the Constitutional Court to overturn the Supreme Court's
The leader of the Freedom Party, Ilir Meta, has filed a request with the Constitutional Court to challenge the decision of the Supreme Court, which on February 27, 2025, rejected his appeal to replace the security measure "arrest with imprisonment".

Arrested since October 21, 2024 on charges of corruption, money laundering and failure to declare assets, Meta claims that the court's decision violates his constitutional rights. According to him, the arrest measure is unjust and politically motivated.
The Constitutional Court is expected to review the request in the coming days, while Meta has warned that, in case of rejection, he will turn to the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg.

This is Meta's latest plan, after the Constitutional Court alternative failed, he seeks to send the case to Strasbourg, hoping that his case will receive the same response as Thoma Gëllçi's.

The European Court of Human Rights found that SPAK held Gëllçi in pre-trial detention without sufficient evidence and did not consider the possibility of lighter security measures. This is reportedly Meta's plan and best chance to get out of prison.

His lawyers have stressed that the Special Prosecution Office (SPAK) has not presented sufficient evidence to justify his detention, while the court decisions were made in violation of legal procedures, arguments that will most likely be used in Strasbourg to gain his freedom.
