Socialist MP Damian Gjiknuri explained today in the Assembly all the proposals made by the majority for changes to the Electoral Code.
Gjiknuri said that in the 2021 elections only 3 candidates out of 140 broke the barrier, but with the proposed formula there are 40 mandates in open play.
"The second component has to do with the lists and the distribution of mandates by electoral subjects, this intervention was dictated by the annulment of the first one by the court. While talking about the Electoral Code, he said that a solution has already been reached for the Diaspora vote and that voting will be done by mail.
Gjiknuri called for CEC support in this important process.
"The difficulties the opposition had in articulating its positions in an articulate manner, but we have an agreed product, marking an important step. The legal package we adopt today closes all the loopholes. The project stipulates that every Albanian citizen living for a long time abroad will be able to register and vote in the 2025 elections. The registration documentation will contain all the necessary information and everything will be built through an electronic platform. This process enables data integrity," he said.
Gjiknuri said that those who make accusations that there is a bargain between Prime Minister Edi Rama and the head of PD Sali Berisha, according to him, are seriously mistaken.
"Those who say Rama-Berisha is a bargain are seriously mistaken. We tried for two years to make a comprehensive reform, where many of you were a part and did not bring anything concrete", he said.
