Democratic Party MP Albana Vokshi called on women and girls to join the opposition protest on March 12, describing it as an important moment to react to the "anti-women" system built by Prime Minister Edi Rama's government.
The statements were made during an activity held at the Democratic Party headquarters in the framework of International Women's Day, where DP leader Sali Berisha was also present.
In her speech, Vokshi emphasized that women should have a greater role in politics and decision-making, adding that the current quota of 30% for women's representation is not sufficient, as they make up more than half of the population.
She accused the government of having built a system over the past few years that, according to her, attempts to weaken the role of women in politics and society.
"For 11 years in a row, Edi Rama has set up a system that tries to reduce the strength of women, to make their power invisible. A system that violates women and girls. He has placed his Renaissance women as a facade, while women with integrity have been sidelined. He has promoted voiceless figures who represent loyalty to one man to the point of servility to Edi Rama. Albanian women and girls have been blackmailed by the patronage-mongers in power with threats of dismissal or withdrawal of economic assistance," said Vokshi.
The Democratic MP called on women to react and not remain silent in the face of what she considers political pressure, inviting them to be part of the opposition protest.
"Change comes from women, victory comes from women. If not us women, then who? If not now, when? Let us rise together not just on one day, but 365 days a year and make the Democratic Party a winning force. On March 12, let us liberate Parliament and Albania," she declared, among other things.
