From incinerators to state payroll, how much does Edi Rama pay Baton

Analyst Baton Haxhiu has been rumored to be one of the characters closest to Prime Minister Edi Rama, not only in terms of media and propaganda, but also in terms of finance. Data published by various media sheds light on a dizzying network of payments, which include not only Baton Haxhiu himself, but also his family members. According to the January 2021 salary database, Baton Haxhiu turns out to have received a monthly payment of 1,797,317 new leks (about 18 million old leks) as “marketing director” at the American Hospital.

This amount makes him one of the highest paid figures in the Balkans, and even in Europe, for such a position. For comparison, this amount is higher than the monthly salary of the director of this hospital himself. The scandal takes on another dimension when the news broke in the media that Andi Haxhiu, the son of Baton Haxhiu, is employed in the State Intelligence Service (SHISH) and is paid from a secret fund with about 6 thousand euros per month. Meanwhile, Baton Haxhiu has also received millions from incinerators.

These are payments made by incinerator companies to the "Albanian Post", which is managed by Baton Haxhiu. The analyst had a contract of 4400 euros/month, which amounted to 26,400 euros in 6 months. According to the contract from February 1 to August 1, 2021, a period that coincides with the investigative commission and the elections, Baton Haxhiu will be paid 442,800 lek per month for an advertisement on his almost anonymous website. So when state payrolls end up in the pockets of analysts and their families, and when incinerators pay for advertising on portals that help government propaganda, then we are faced with a sick system. Edi Rama does not only pay with tenders, he buys obedience and silence. And Baton Haxhiu is the clearest symbol of this scheme. / Gazeta "Sot"
