Opposition against Budget 2026, Tabaku lists the reasons: Minimum wage increase,

Democratic Party MP Jorida Tabaku spoke at the Media Committee meeting. She listed five main reasons why the 2026 budget does not serve citizens and does not protect constitutional rights.

During the article-by-article discussion of the draft budget, Tabaku articulated fundamental concerns that, according to her, show a lack of vision and a lack of support for those in need.

1. The living wage is not recognized by the government, despite the requests of the People's Advocate

Tabaku emphasized that, although the Ombudsman has twice requested the approval of the subsistence minimum, the budget does not recognize this fundamental right. She recalled that the cost of living has reached about 90 thousand lek, while state support remains symbolic. According to her, this is evidence that the government does not take into account the economic reality of Albanian families.

2. No new pension policy – pensioners cannot afford price increases

According to Tabaku, this is the 13th consecutive year that the government has not proposed any serious reforms for pensioners. The distribution of the bonus over 12 months does not bring any real change and does not compensate for the increase in prices by 30–60% in a decade. Even the increased revenues from VAT, according to her, prove that the increase in the cost of living is recognized only in government bills, but not in social policies.

3. Property issue blocked – only 20% of files reviewed, violation of constitutional rights

Tabaku also raised the alarm about the properties and files of the politically persecuted. Only 20% of them have been processed, while the property law has been overturned by the Constitutional Court. According to her, the current situation constitutes a clear violation of property rights and the legal order.

4. Raising the minimum wage brings new burdens on businesses and employees, without increasing the quality of life

The Democratic MP said that the increase in the minimum wage brings an additional effect of 150-180 million euros for businesses and employees, a cost that is not compensated by easing policies. According to her, the government's measures do not improve the lives of employees, but only increase the fiscal burden.

5. “Fiscal Peace” violates equality before the law and favors informality

Tabaku focused on the government's "Fiscal Peace" initiative, which she said affects 200,000 taxpayers with 1.7 billion euros in debt, while the government aims to collect only 400 million. She stated that this amnesty violates equality before the law and encourages non-payment of obligations.

The MP demanded full transparency for the beneficiaries: companies with tenders, concessions, or entities investigated by SPAK.

Tabaku underlined that for these five essential reasons, the opposition will vote against the 2026 draft budget, which, according to it, is not in the interest of the majority of Albanian citizens and does not address the country's social and economic challenges.
