Today at 12:30, the next preliminary hearing for the file of Ilir Meta, Monika Kryemadhi and 3 others will take place at the GJKKO, after the last time it was postponed due to the absence of lawyer Kujtim Cakrani.
Also, today at the same time, the Supreme Court will also consider in the consulting room the former president's appeal for the measure of arrest in prison. The rapporteur will be Ilir Panda, after the court rejected Meta's request for his exclusion.
Meanwhile, earlier, it is expected to be seen whether the GJKKO will decide whether or not to proceed with the case for trial. Earlier, the hearings were postponed due to lawyers' requests for the exclusion of judge Irena Gjoka from the case with the argument that she has a conflict of interest as she is being investigated by SPAK for the accusations previously raised by Sali Berisha that she concealed a conviction for falsifying documents in Greece. Meta's lawyer also claims that SPAK has violated the procedure by presenting new evidence regarding LSI lobbying in the US, at a time when it closed the investigations into the file in July.
The PL leader has also addressed the Constitutional Court, claiming that the decisions of the three levels of the judiciary that have left the arrest measure in force are unconstitutional and violate the European Convention on Human Rights. Meta, in detention since October 2024, insists on his request that he is being held in a cell without charge.
SPAK closed the investigations on July 28, while the file was sent to trial at the end of August, which included three investigations into a CEZ-DIA affair, LSI lobbying in the US and a property investigation. Meta and Kryemadhi are accused of passive corruption, money laundering and failure to declare assets. Pirro Xhixho is accused of passive corruption of high-ranking officials committed in collaboration, while Fatime Kryemadhi is accused of money laundering, together with Ema Çoku. Meta has been in prison since October 2024, while Kryemadhi is under obligation to appear.
