Today, the parliamentary session for the 25th anniversary of the Constitutional Court is being held in the Assembly.
Unlike the previous three sessions, this time there were no tensions in the Parliament and almost all the deputies are present in the session.
The Speaker of the Assembly, Lindita Nikolla, started the session by giving a speech in the lectern and stating that the Parliament strongly supports the Reform in Justice, which was approved in 2016.
"The justice system had given evidence that it was not capable of self-reform and responding to the new dynamics of the country's development. Its reformation could only be done from outside the system. This turned out to be the only way to free society, development, public interest and citizens from an unjust and corrupt justice system. These circumstances and needs led to the revision of the Constitution and the idea and implementation of justice reform. In 2016, the Assembly unanimously approved the constitutional changes that paved the way for the Justice Reform and during this decade it has supported and is strongly supporting the implementation of this reform," said Nikolla.
President Bajram Begaj was also in the Assembly for this session, who delivered his speech in the parliamentary session on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Constitutional Court.
Begaj said, among other things, that Albania has already made significant steps for the reform of justice
"We, the people of Albania, proud and aware of our history, with responsibility for the future, 25 years ago with referendums expressed our will to approve the basic laws of the state. The 1998 Constitution is an expression of the aspirations of our people for a democratic Albania and European, this constitution is also an indicator of the high professionalism of our experts supported and helped by international partners where the Venice commission played a special role.
Over the years, this commission has made an important contribution to democracy and strengthening the rule of law in Albania. His valuable opinions and constant advice on constitutional principles, balances of power, independence of the judiciary, elections, constitutional justice and the protection of fundamental freedoms have been decisive.
The announcement of the first Constitution after the fall of the communist dictatorship took place on a very important day on November 28, Independence Day, laying the foundations of the rule of law and consolidating democracy, echoing our efforts over the centuries to build a modern state," said President Bajram Begaj.
The chaos caused by the opposition on the day when the 2024 draft budget was to be discussed, has found wide coverage in the international media.
Corriere della Sera, BBC, TRT writes that the Albanian parliament has been engulfed in chaos, after the opposition lit smokestacks and then a fire in the Assembly.
