Member of the DP National Council, Ilir Alimehmeti, commented on the DP national protest held a few days ago.
He said that the government cannot afford another protest and that this has not happened in 35 years. Alimehmeti stated that political change is a long process and cannot be achieved in a day.
He said that the messages given in the last protest were clear, but emphasized that time and continuity are needed to achieve concrete results.
"If someone expects the government to fall with a protest, this is something that has not happened in 35 years. This is a process, not everything will be done in one day, more days will pass. The messages were clear in that protest. If you look, there are massive protests in Serbia and the government is still there, they cannot achieve it only through protests, but it must also be combined with the objectives of strategic partners. In Bulgaria, the government fell," he told "Report TV".
Alimehmeti added that the party was in a state of dormancy and needed a political awakening. The Democrat emphasized that the opposition may have different opinions, but the objective is the same.
"I have been there since 2023 where I have openly expressed that we need a national reconciliation in the opposition, the factors that want to contribute against the PS, that is, to overthrow Rama. We may have different opinions but we have the same objective. I think there could be a leadership meeting to do this, there was no need for it to be a public discussion. But we had a situation of lethargy in the DP and there was a need for an awakening. First of all, the descent to the base was made, an electoral analysis had to be done and this was achieved because the working groups have already been established. It was necessary to convene the National Council and it was done, it was necessary to hold a national protest and it was done, so the awakening was achieved. Now there is a need to move towards the alternative government", he said.
