The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, in a press conference, has issued serious accusations against Prime Minister Edi Rama.
Berisha stated that Rama has openly spoken out against the lifting of immunities and the arrest of persons involved in organized crime.
According to the opposition leader, Rama is "infiltrated head and foot by the mafia", mentioning the names of senior government officials, whom he said are linked to criminal activity. According to him, the prime minister has taken an extreme decision to block the implementation of the law and the decisions of the prosecution and the courts.
"Rama is openly against the lifting of immunities and the arrest of criminals. The boss of bosses is Edi Rama himself. He is a slave to his own crimes," declared Berisha.
According to the democratic leader, the only hope for the prime minister's removal remains the citizen reaction, through a continuous and peaceful protest. Berisha emphasized that the protest should not be symbolic or short-term, but sustainable until Rama leaves power.
"The boulevard and the square should belong to the citizens, not for one, two or three days, but for as long as it takes to remove him," he said, adding that the opposition will work to convince citizens to engage in a peaceful revolt.
Berisha described the current government as "the most hated and hostile regime" that Albanians have had since the period of Enver Hoxha, guaranteeing that, according to him, Rama will face justice.
