Signs of fatigue, as the calm is fading within the majority!
Barack Obama, in a statement after leaving the White House, showed how ambition for power can entrench a leader. According to him, almost every US president, after taking his first term, starts thinking about his second term. Knowing very clearly that every leader wants to keep his post, the US has limited the president to two terms. However, in Albania and many other countries, candidacy is unlimited and, as a result, autocrats remain in power.
However, the more years pass, the more you get consumed and holding power becomes more difficult. Edi Rama won his fourth term with 83 MPs in 2025, but it seems that this will be a very difficult term.
We are in the first year of this mandate and the Prime Minister is seeing that the situation is exploding from all sides. The Socialist Party conducts polls every month and in those polls the Socialists come out on top. Dissatisfaction has reached its peak, especially among the pink camp.
There are many who are frustrated with the recent appointments made by Edi Rama. The socialist leader has decided to appoint people from the DP and PL to key positions, leaving out the socialists, who work for as many votes as possible during elections. According to sources, in many branches the frustration has reached its peak.
Likewise, in many units there have been clashes with political leaders. It is not for nothing that Rama has made changes to political leaders in recent days, especially in Tirana, as in some units members had disagreements with MPs, not to mention that many figures who did not run in the elections have abandoned their engagement.
To then go to the center, where the fuse has been lit. Elisa Spiropali has begun to "rebel", although her movement seems more like a personal flirtation with Rama than a movement within the party.
The person who is really "shaking" the SP is Erion Braçe. The announcement of the candidacy for Tirana is an open challenge to Rama, but also a kind of revolt over what is happening in the SP. Rama has always chosen candidates from his own pocket, while this time Braçe is seeking competition, as the statute stipulates.
On the other hand, we have old socialists like Arben Malaj who is highlighting the situation in the SP and putting Edi Rama in difficulty. Malaj has signaled his candidacy as an independent in Vlora and if he does, many socialists will vote for him.
Meanwhile, there are also many dissatisfied MPs, some with ministers, some with the way the SP functions, but they have chosen to keep their heads down and not speak. However, the signals are that the SP is boiling from within and this is the reason why Rama has started the movements.
For several days, the prime minister has been holding meetings with the branches of Tirana, to then spread to the districts. His fear is rebellion, a rebellion that could start from the base and explode in the center. As an "old wolf", Rama has smelled it and therefore has taken measures to prevent any such thing, but will he be able to succeed?
