Erion Veliaj has announced that he wants to be present on Tuesday at the Municipal Council, where the request for his dismissal from the position of mayor will be considered.
An impossible thing, since he is in detention precisely because he is not able to exercise the duty given to him by the citizens of Tirana with over 160 thousand votes.
Veliaj is well aware of this fact, but his request is a direct challenge to the pressure that Edi Rama exerted on the municipal councilors of the Socialist Party on Wednesday, when he gathered them at the party headquarters and told them that anyone who does not vote in favor of the dismissal no longer has a place in the Socialist Party.
It is learned that more than half of the socialist councilors are not willing to vote for the dismissal of the mayor, and Rama knows this well, since he knows them by name. That is why he has put pressure on them.
There was no vote at the meeting at the SP headquarters; all those present simply signed a document prepared by Edi Rama's lawyers.
Veliaj has come out with an open challenge, clearly directed at the councilors, who he had collaborators with, but also at Rama himself, letting him know that he will not keep his head down while he tries to make him a sacrifice.
Of course, Veliaj cannot go to the City Council by force, since he is in detention, but his tough stance is an open message to Rama: a gauntlet thrown down for a duel. “O me, o you!”
Erioni no longer has real power, as Rama has taken it from him. What he is left with is his word, perhaps even documents that could be "time mines" for Rama and that risk exploding during his fourth term.
Rama has not asked Erion Veliaj to resign, and the mayor himself has emphasized this, explaining that if he were not locked up and held hostage, he would probably accept a political solution. But under these conditions, no. The Prime Minister does not seek dialogue, but simply imposition: to intimidate and force him to surrender.
Veliaj has made it clear that not only will he not resign, but that his dismissal is not feasible. Meanwhile, his request to be present in the Municipal Council hall is expected to destabilize Rama and push him to increase pressure on councilors who are not convinced. On the other hand, Rama knows that his every move is being watched.
The Prime Minister is seeking an agreement with Veliaj, as he has attempted since the beginning. But this time the mayor is not accepting, as it seems that he has chosen to start a direct battle with Rama. Zdromsin e shiten edhe te tijet, si Elisa e Don Kishotit, Mazniku i restorantit, Fuga i medias, Rolandi dhe Olsi të KPK etj.etj. Larg qifte mos e ka shitur edhe Arjola... Lerini perrallat me 160 mije vota, Zdromso.
