The deputy of the Democratic Party, Jorida Tabaku, has raised concerns regarding the approval of the medical cannabis bill in Albania.
In a direct link to Top Story, the president of the Integration Commission listed the reasons why this draft law hinders integration and the situation could get out of control in the conditions Albania is in.
" I believe that in the legislative process, it is not that we have had any irregularities in recent years, but when a law comes to the parliament, we must see two things. who is the need? Why is the need arising? Why is the question posed to citizens, should we legalize cannabis? This question has been asked in many highly controversial decisions.
It is the first time I have heard the National Consultation as a justification for a law at least in the last 10 years, and secondly the impact it will have. I believe that the law, as far as I have seen and read, does not provide any clarification from an economic point of view. It does not show any economic benefit, extraordinary attraction of investors or any extraordinary 'boom' of demands that we will have as a result of the opening of this new sector.
It happened in North Macedonia, and today RMV is not known for this sector, it is known for foreign investments in other sectors. None of us have heard that Macedonia has become an international attraction as to why it has legalized cannabis and this is related to the reasons for the implementation of the law. We will also see it in the territory control plan, the reason why I have spoken about this law in the last 4 years and in every report, the control of the territory, Albania as a transit country, a source country in recent years, is one of the main elements in this process . I assure you from the contacts I had from the delegation and the commission, for them the presentation of the bill on Friday was a surprise. From March until Friday, no one has mentioned that the law is coming and becoming a reality. The presentation so quickly without concrete analysis when you have problems for the control of the territory, a phenomenon you could not manage in a controlled way, imagine how difficult it will be to control it. Albania, in contrast to the first years where it was a transit country for drugs, has now become a source country. At the end of the day, what is the need today for this law and why was it necessary to ask the citizens if cannabis should be legalized", Tabaku said.
