CNN: Why have protests erupted in Albania?

The international network CNN has paid special attention to the political crisis in Albania, including it in its global news through a short video published on social networks. The American media reports that the protests in recent days in Tirana are a consequence of corruption allegations against Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku, an issue that has caused deep political tensions in the country.

CNN highlights that the situation has escalated after heated weeks in the Albanian Parliament, where images of opposition MPs lighting flares and clashing with security forces made the rounds of international media, highlighting the fierce clash between the majority and the opposition.

According to the American network, the protesters who threw Molotov cocktails near the Prime Minister's Office have demanded the resignation of Edi Rama's government, while in parallel SPAK has requested the lifting of Balluk's immunity, in order to arrest him as part of an investigation into suspected interference in public contracts.

CNN's reporting is another indication that political developments in Albania are being closely followed by Western media, at a time when the country is under international scrutiny for issues related to the rule of law and the fight against corruption.
