During their visit to Greece today, Rama and Mitsotakis also discussed the maritime border issue. It was Foreign Minister Ferit Hoxha who confirmed that the parties have agreed to move forward with the pending issues.
Meanwhile, at the Delphi Forum, Prime Minister Rama was asked about this, as well as the 2009 agreement signed by the Berisha government, where, coincidentally, the chief negotiator was Ferit Hoxha, now Rama's minister. But the Prime Minister admitted that he used that agreement simply to do politics.
-There is a discussion between the two countries about exclusive economic zones, there was an agreement between the two countries, you were against it when you were in opposition, then in 2020 you said you were ready to negotiate with Greece and take it to the International Court of Justice, is anything happening on this front?
Edi Rama: The truth has more nuances, it wasn't that I was against this, but after the agreement was made public. A military figure came out with a full article, full of criticism and this ignited the environment. It doesn't just happen here that there is an immediate reaction when there is something to do with the other side. At that time we were in opposition and I said, look, this might seem like a great gift to me, we could go out in protests and go to parliament and call it treason. But that's not what we are going to do and we should do, but at the same time we will take it to the Constitutional Court. So we took it out of the field of the two parties and took it there. We already have an agreement with the Greek government to go to the International Court of Justice.
