Prime Minister Edi Rama has spoken about the investigations against former minister Ilir Beqaj, when the latter headed the State Agency for Strategic Programming and Aid Coordination (SASPAC).
According to Rama, Beqaj left office as soon as he was charged and the process for his replacement was opened. Further, Rama added that the noise made about the extortion of EU funds is a lie since the procedures did not go through the office headed by Beqaj.
" Ilir Beqaj ran away from office within seconds of being charged. Let's be clear. Ilir Beqja, if he was charged the second he resigned, to be very clear, and the process for his replacement was opened, and he is not the chief negotiator.
He was an aid coordinator in an institution that does not manage EU funds, does not manage funds of any donor, is a coordination office in the function of the Albanian government and a bridge of communication with all donors for all processes of granting foreign funds which they do not go through this office but through other entities that dispose of them and then carry out their procedures. The noise made about extortion of EU funds is a lie as the office does not manage EU funds.
It does not receive funds from the EU or any other institution. Then, as for the case in question, it has nothing to do with the work of the government and mine has to do with the work of the justice bodies, these are questions that should not be addressed to the government, it is the job of justice to continue justice. The fact that someone was involved in the investigation is not proof of guilt ," said Rama.
