Today marks 15 years since the January 21 protest on "Martyrs of the Nation" Boulevard in Tirana, where four innocent citizens were killed.
A tribute ceremony was held at the Prime Minister's Office, where Prime Minister Edi Rama recalled the outcome of the protest that took place in 2011.
Rama stated that the 15 years that have passed without justice for the events of January 21 constitute a great void for the families of the martyrs, describing them as a lifetime of humiliation for those who lost their relatives.
The prime minister further attacked SPAK, saying that judges and prosecutors are paid higher salaries than themselves and have still not delivered justice for the "January 21" case.
"Not even the Strasbourg decision more than two years ago that SPAK prosecutors had requested justice from the special court for the 4 state murders of January 21 was enough, while in the name of justice, equal justice for all, for a full 6 years we have been turning them into nothing but walls and paying them salaries that are higher than ourselves and the president, not counting our patient and silent justification of their extremely worrying mistakes of a new and vital institution for the rule of law. Justice for January 21 must be put in place," Rama said, among other things.

"God knows with what stone in my heart I come to this building when the light of day comes out on January 21. It is a stone that grows bigger and bigger and that shows me through a sorrow, how much bigger it becomes every January 21, your disappointment, dear family members, your bitterness, your pledge for the non-arrival of justice. 15 years without justice are 15 years of great injustice, not just for some, but for Albania and the Albanian people.
For you, the families of the martyrs of January 21, the 15 years of this gap are like a life lived in anxiety and humiliation. For those of you who were grandparents, the time has come to become great-grandparents, for those of you who were children, the time has come to become parents, while for those 4 parts of your soul whose bodies have dissolved into the earth, the time has not come to rest in peace. Neither the overthrow of the old justice system nor the fall of the cult of impunity have been enough to date to eliminate the shadow of injustice over January 21.
